Carly Hagins is an industrial designer who has created the Tonto Task Light, which is a solar-powered gadget designed to light your path when out trekking and walking. During the day, the small solar panel charges the internal battery, at night you can switch between white light or UV light. Since scorpions are difficult to see at night or in dusk, and since scorpions fluoresce under UV light, the UV torch can help you avoid the little creatures.
The Tonto task light is designed with a quick-release system that allows it to be quickly attached or detached from the strap of a rucksack. The light has been crafted from robust plastics to ensure that it doesn’t get broken whilst you’re out trekking. It’s a simple concept, and I imagine that it won’t be very expensive if it hits the shops any time soon.
I do wonder if the lights are at the right angle for walking though. The lights appear to be angled forward rather than downwards, which means you might not see a great deal a few steps in front of you. However, having an adjustable angle to the light would quickly resolve this issue.
