If you’re into your fishing, you’ll know that sometimes the line will just break or it needs to be cut for safety reasons. Unfortunately, most fishing lines are petroleum-based polymers that can take up to 600 years to break down. This huge length of time can have a surprisingly devastating effect on marine life. However, eco friendly technology has produced this specially designed fishing line which will bio-degrade in 2 to 5 years, causing a much smaller degree of damage compared to it’s conventional counterparts.
The fishing line was designed by the same team who developed medical sutures (used for sewing up after surgery) that will dissolve inside the body days or weeks after surgery. The biodegradeable fishing line will not swell or take on water, and is the result of many years of research and development. Reducing the breakdown time by a factor of 120 is impressive!
