Designer Tez Patel has come up with an eco-friendly refrigerator gadget that allows you to save energy using multiple compartments. The assumption is that you don’t use all of your fridge at the same time. If you’re like me, you spread your food out into lots of different shelves. However, you might only have the equivalent of a single shelf of food at any given time.
Tez’s design allows for compartments that are not in use to be switched off. This means you only use enough energy to cool the parts of the fridge you are using.
Dubbed the Oceania, individual compartments are powered using thermoelectric modules. This means drawers can easily be switched on and off as needed. The bottom section is cooled by using a water reservoir ideal for storing fruit and vegetables, massively saving on energy needed to cool that compartment.
You can access the compartments as drawers, making it really easy to access food compared to a traditional cupboard storage design. A genuinely great idea, I like it!
