The Secret Energy Turbine or S.E.T is a wind turbine that has been designed to look like a chimney pot while working silently, thus combating the two major issues with wind turbines for home use.
The S.E.T has been designed by inventor Rupert Sweet-Escott. It comes in three different sizes to look to scale to many different house types, and to help to offer a range of effectiveness. The 400mm sized S.E.T is thought to be able to provide enough energy to power the lights of an average household, if the lights used have low energy bulbs fitted. This though is dependent on the wind speeds in the area, in some cases a significantly higher amount of electrical power could be produced, conversely a significantly lower amount could be produced.
The mounted blades are subject to the forces of two opposing magnets, which frees them from the forces of gravity. When these blades catch the wind they start to spin very rapidly, forming a fast aerofoil due to the use of boundary layers. This turning of the blades translates into the turning of a generator, which produces an AC electrical supply which is fed into a controller to turn it into a DC supply which can charge the battery packs needed to store the energy. By using a Sine Wave inverter the electricity is then transformed back into an AC supply that can be used in a normal household way due to the 12/24voltage being changed to 230 voltage.
Constructed from totally weatherproof materials (aluminium coated with aircraft grade epoxy paint, coated with a protective oil) the S.E.T can cope with even harsh and rainy winters and bright sunny summers. It has been shown to cope with wind speeds of up to 90 mph.
