The Hercules ePlug 200 Duo is a HomePlug Adapter that allows you to run a wired network over your existing mains cables. I run one of these networks already, and they are very impressive. The Hercules ePlug 200 Duo is a new model that saves up to 50% of the energy compared to conventional HomePlug Adapters.
The adaptors have been designed to be very simple to set up. Literally just plug both adaptors in your wall sockets and you’re ready to go. If you want to add further adaptors to your network, you just press one of the pairing buttons. Essentially its a quick way to wire a network without drilling holes or having messy cables everywhere.
The technology itself involves transmitting high frequency signals over the mains cable without disturbing electrical equipment. Since it uses secure encryption and your existing wiring, its more secure than using WiFi networking, and is much faster too. The ePlug is available rated at network speeds of 200MBps and 85MBps.
Available in July 2009, the ePlug 200 Duo and ePlug 85 Duo will cost around $149.99 and $99.99.
